Beloved student’s memory lives on at Bella’s Place.

NEW ERA — The small community of New Era was shocked and saddened by the passing of 5-year-old Bella Durga last February.

Her family and the New Era Christian School community wanted to create a lasting tribute in little Bella’s memory, so they created Bella’s Place — an outdoor play and learning area. Bella loved playing outside.

Bella’s Place was formally dedicated Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 14.

“It was well attended by families and supporters of the school, and the weather was perfect,” said Principal Jim Eppink. “Former Principal Phil Morse gave the dedication speech, and Mrs. Paula DeRoos shared a descriptive review of the entire process from start to finish.

“The event was capped off by (Bella’s dad) Jordan Durga sharing his personal reflections on the project and a ribbon cutting which marked the beginning of a new chapter of outdoor education here at New Era Christian,” said Eppink. “Bella’s memory will serve as a vital ministry in the lives of the next generation.”
