HART — The 32-year-old Muskegon man accused of shooting and killing a 28-year-old man with a handgun in a love triangle situation Sunday on Robinhood Drive south of Rothbury was arraigned in Oceana County’s 78th District Court Monday, June 13, on charges of open murder and felony firearm.

Carlos Andres Sanchez, of 3860 Manatee Ave., is accused of murdering Miguel Angel Gutierrez, of 4357 Louise St,, Muskegon.

The killing occurred around noon in the backyard of a single-wide trailer at 8537 S. Robinhood Dr. — the home of Crystal Ramona Gonzalez.

Sanchez fled the scene in a white pickup truck but was quickly apprehended on southbound US 31 near the river flats in Muskegon County by Muskegon County authorities.

“A BOL (be on the lookout) was put out for the vehicle traveling southbound, and he was picked up in Muskegon County,” said Lt. Shane Hasty of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. A handgun was used in the killing, said Hasty.

Gutierrez was declared dead upon arrival, said the lieutenant. Ms. Gonzalez was not injured.

“There is a love interest situation,” said Hasty. “The suspect is the former love interest, and the deceased is the new love interest.”

Gonzalez lived in the trailer. “The new boyfriend was going to be residing here, and she was going to be going back and forth between her mother’s residence in the Shelby area.”

Sanchez is being held in the Oceana County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference June 27 and a preliminary exam July 5.

Robinhood Drive is a quiet, wooded subdivision located off Webster Road. Near the murder scene, neighbors could be seen mowing their lawns and tending to their yards on the sunny Sunday afternoon.
