The new school is the largest component of the $33 million bond issue passed by the community in May of 2021. The celebration will include participation by students who will be incoming users of the new school; district board members; “Say Yes” school bond committee members; and other district supporters. The event will take place at the site of the new elementary school, which is north of the high school on Oceana Drive, and will include a photo opportunity and refreshments.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this milestone,” said Superintendent Tim Reeves of the upcoming construction. “We are deeply grateful to the community for its support of this important step to improving our schools, including those who worked so hard on the bond issue and all those who voted ‘yes.’ We especially wanted to involve those students who will be the first users of the new space when it opens in August 2023, and get them excited about this great new building.”

The bond project includes the new elementary school for kindergarten through fifth grade; a transformation of Thomas Read Elementary into an early childhood education facility; and renovations to both the middle and high school to provide new secure entrances, refreshed classrooms, replacement of roofing, auditorium upgrades, and much more. Project partners include construction management firm The Christman Company and project architect GMB Architecture and Engineering.
