James Emms III

James Emms III, 69, of Pentwater.

James E. Emms III, 69, of Pentwater, passed away with his family by his side on December 23, 2020.  His heavenly father called his name to be by his side after a significant stroke. Jim was born in Ludington on April 5, 1951 to James II and Loraine Emms. Jim was raised in Traverse City, then moved to Grand Rapids where he graduated in 1969 from Kentwood High School.  He attended Central Michigan University and later received his residential builder’s license. Jim resided in Whitehall for over 30 years where he raised his family and was a dedicated employee at Arconic (Howmet).

Jim married Stephanie L. Bennett of Ludington on July 29, 1978. Their love for one another grew over 42 years and was filled with adventure, family trips, building, and boating. He and Stephanie built five custom homes for their family, with the last one being on Pentwater Lake. Outside of his building abilities, he enjoyed being on the water, whether it was just a boat ride or fishing. He had a unique sense of humor and his selflessness was exemplified through his dedication in helping others. One of his greatest accomplishments was being a loving, caring, and dedicated father to his children.  Jim was present at all of their events.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Stephanie; son Jed (Kati) Emms; daughter Jodi (Dusty) Green. His treasured grandchildren Spencer, Troy, Lexi, and Webb will always remember what a great “Papa” he was. He also leaves behind his sister Patricia (David) Bisbee and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol Sue Emms.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation at 11 a.m. on Tuesday December 29, 2020. A funeral service will follow at noon with Father Mick Shriver officiating at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington located at 3060 W. US Hwy 10.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington.
