SHELBY TOWNSHIP — Two adults died in a plane crash near 102nd Avenue between Buchanan and Woodrow roads Friday, July 15, around 6:15 p.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

According to “very premature information,” witnesses heard the what is believed to be a single-engine Cessna 210 plane “appear to struggle,” said Mast, and it crashed behind a house. A witness said he heard a “big bang” and debris was strewn in his front yard. Weather and mechanical issues may have played a factor in the crash.

Michigan State Police is leading the investigation, and the Federal Aviation Administration is en route to the scene, said Mast.

No one else was injured.

The Shelby-Benona Fire Department is assisting at the scene.
