WEARE TOWNSHIP — A 26-year-old Michigan State Police trooper assigned to the Hart Post was arrested early Sunday morning by Oceana County Sheriff’s Office for drunk driving. According to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast, the off-duty male trooper was involved in a single vehicle crash on Wayne Road near the US 31 overpass. Deputies were called to the scene at 1:23 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, where they found the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a corner, went off the road and struck several trees, Mast said. The crash caused heavy damage to the man’s Chevrolet Cruze.

“The driver was subsequently arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol,” Mast said. “He submitted to a blood draw at Mercy Health Partners Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby and then was lodged in the Mecosta County Jail.”

Mast said the driver is scheduled to be arraigned in Oceana County’s 78th District Court Oct. 14. Following arraignment, his name will be released.
