Southern Mason County road closures.

RIVERTON TOWNSHIP (Mason County) — Morton Road, between Washington and Marrison roads and Marrison Road between Morton and Stiles roads have been closed due to the Washington Road culvert failure. According to the Mason County Road Commission, additional traffic on Morton and Marrison roads has caused severe damage to the road surface. 

Barricades have been placed on Morton Road at Washington Road and Marrison Road at Stiles Road to stop further damage to the roadways. 

Washington Road between Stiles and Morton roads is also closed. This is a commonly used route as the “back way” between Scottville and northern Oceana County. Motorists will need to seek alternative routes.

The Oceana County Road Commission is close to reaching an agreement with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) on what type of structure will be needed to replace the culvert failure on Washington Road, according to Mary Samuels, manager/director of MCRC.
