Hesperia man gets 25-40 years for sexually assaulting child.

HART — A 46-year-old Hesperia man was sentenced to 25-40 years in prison Monday, Oct. 22, in 27th Circuit Court for a conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Edward Allen Dawkins, of 8366 E. M 20, molested a 4-year-old girl, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. Dawkins previously served 15 years in prison in 1994 for a first-degree CSC conviction in Newaygo County, said Judge Robert D. Springstead.
Dawkins pleaded “no contest” last August following his arrest by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. He has remained lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $100,000/cash/surety bond.
Dawkins will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring and sex offender registration, “assuming he is paroled,” said Springstead. The judge noted “the severity of this offense involving a 4-year-old” and Dawson’s prior conviction.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are nine to 15 years.
The judge gave Dawson credit for 103 days served in jail.
