Doris Lundberg

Obituary: Doris Lundberg, 93, Pentwater.

Doris Lundberg, 93, of Pentwater, passed away on September 3, 2018.

Doris was born on February 27, 1925 in Derby, England, the daughter of the late Samuel and Edith (Bennett) Poole.  When she was 15, she left school to attend typing class and was soon working as a typist for the British government during World War II.

She married Lawrence Lundberg in England on May 23, 1945, before traveling to America.   They spent 61 wonderful years together, until his death in 2007. Throughout Doris’ life she enjoyed music, poetry,  knitting and staying in contact with other English war brides and her English family. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Riverton Township, where she directed the choir for more than 40 years.   Doris was an avid knitter who taught 4-H knitting for many years and started an adult knitting group called the Knitwits. She volunteered at Ludington Memorial Medical Center in outpatient surgery and baked thousands of cookies for medical personnel over the years.   In addition, she knitted hundreds of baby hats each year for newborns at the hospital, each accompanied by one of her poems or messages, and a 100 pairs of mittens for the Mitten Tree every year. Ultimately, she contributed over 15,800 volunteer hours at the hospital.

Doris is survived by her children, Ralph (Cherrie) Lundberg, Brian (Nancy) Lundberg, Roger (Jeanne) Lundberg, Cheryl (George) Williamson, and Peter (Peri) Lundberg; grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristina, Timothy, Amy, Jeffrey, James, Wendy, Lori, Kelly, Peter, Jeremy, Kenneth, Evan, Tyler, Staci, and Angela; 40 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Lundberg, and her grandson, Scott Lundberg.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Riverton Township, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.  Visitation will also be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington.
