Mears man sent to prison for drug delivery.

HART — A 29-year-old Mears man was sentenced to three to 20 years in prison for a drug delivery conviction in 27th Circuit Court Monday, July 9.
Austin Shelby Valentine, of 5915 W. Deer Rd., and his wife, Jessica Lou Valentine, were arrested last February after narcotics officers executed a search warrant at their home, seizing suspected methcathinone, a schedule I controlled substance; prescription medication; and suspected marijuana, previously stated Det./Lt. Andrew Ambrose of the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT).
A habitual offender notice was placed on Valentine’s warrant, elevating his maximum possible term to 40 years.
“I made some poor decisions,” Valentine said Monday. “I have a lot of plans to do better in the future. I plan to get into school and start a career. I gave up on myself… I’ve learned a lot from this experience. Valentine said he plans to attain his “short-term goals” first and then focus on reaching his “long-term goals.”
“You have thought this through to better yourself to be a more productive member of society,” said Judge Bradley G. Lambrix. “I wish you well.”
Valentine received no credit for his jail time, because he was on parole at the time he committed the offense. His sentence runs consecutively to any parole violation sanctions he receives.
Valentine has a previous conviction in Emmet County of attempted delivery/manufacture of marijuana and was sentenced to two to four years in prison, according to the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS).
Jessica Valentine was sentenced last month to nine months in jail with credit for 137 days served; 18 months probation; and driver’s license sanctions.
