HART — A 32-year-old Mears man was sentenced to 10 months in jail in 27th Circuit Court Monday, June 11, for a conviction of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police.

Alberto Tejada, of 571 Spencer Rd., was arrested last December by the Michigan State Police for three felony counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and a misdemeanor of domestic violence.

Police were dispatched to a domestic incident, and Tejada fought with police, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. The domestic violence charge was dismissed due to the victim not cooperating with the prosecution, he said.

“I just lost my head,” Tejada said to Judge Bradley G. Lambrix. “I’m really sorry for what I did. I wish I could take it back, but I can’t.

“I’m sorry for what I did to the police officers,” he said. “I know they were just trying to do their job.”

Sentencing guidelines in the case are 7-23 months.

Tejada received credit for six days served in jail. He was also sentenced to two years probation.
