WEARE TOWNSHIP — Mason-Oceana 911 Operations Manager Todd Myers has been selected as the 2017 Information Technologist of the Year by the Michigan Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO).

Each year, Michigan APCO accepts nominations in seven categories from 911 centers in the state of Michigan. Myers was nominated by Mason-Oceana 911 Director Raymond Hasil and Newaygo County 911 Director Cyndie Miller for Todd’s work with 911 technologies connecting the two 911 centers.

A competitive grant assistance program (CGAP) award from 2013 provided funding to consolidate expensive 911 technologies like the computer aided dispatch and 911 phone systems between the two 911 centers. Implementation of those systems continues today and in January of 2018, Meceola Central Dispatch will combine with the shared 911 phone system, making it a shared, five-county 911 phone system.

“Todd’s work implementing shared 911 systems has allowed us to save tens of thousands of dollars every year for years to come.” Hasil said. “This was a massive, long-term project that was done on top of Todd’s regular, day-to-day responsibilities.”

Myers and his family will attend an awards banquet on October 19 in Frankenmuth.
