Woman attacked by pair of assailants; police ask for help.

FERRY TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault that occurred Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:43 p.m. in the 3800 block of East Baker Road in which two women attacked another woman with an “edged weapon,” Lt. Craig Mast said.

“The resident had just returned home after a quick trip to town when she was attacked and knocked to the ground,” Mast said. The victim, who was transported to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, received cuts to her left cheek, right forearm and wrist, Mast said. Her pants and shirt were also slashed, he said.

The assailants, who are believed to be females, used “some sort of edged weapon,” Mast said. The victim, aged “in her upper 40s” suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the lieutenant said.

Through the sheriff’s office investigation, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called in to track the suspects. The dog tracked the suspects to a location on the road, where they fled in a vehicle, Mast said. “They were parked a ways down the road,” he said. “They laid in wait until the victim came home.”

The victim was just about to get her dog out of her vehicle when the attack occurred, Mast said.

The attack happened so quickly the victim was not able to get a physical description of the suspects, Mast said. As far as police know at this point, there were no witnesses.

“There have been a lot of recent family issues within the victim’s immediate and extended family,” he added.
