Two injured in separate weekend dune crashes

OCSO cruiserGOLDEN TWP. — Two men were injured in separate crashes at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes over the weekend involving the same type of ORV.

A 28-year-old Midland man was injured following a crash Friday, June 12, at 4:28 p.m. “Driver (was) found with leg stuck in rear tires,” states an accident report from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. “Unknown on how accident occurred.” The report states the man was southbound on the third hill at the dunes on a yellow 2014 Can Am Renegade. He was transported by Oceana County EMS to an area hospital. His injury level in the accident report was listed as serious.

Another crash at the dunes, which occurred Saturday, June 13, at 7:28 p.m., also involved a yellow 2014 Can Am Renegade. A 48-year-old Flushing man received minor injuries, according to the OCSO report. “Driver was northwest bound at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the ATV,” the report states. “Driver fell from ATV, and then the vehicle rolled end-over-end before coming to rest.” The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital, the report states. The crash occurred near the dunes’ Hamster Tracks.

Central Dispatch called Oceana County EMS to a two-vehicle crash at the dunes Saturday at approximately 3:20 p.m. No information regarding that crash was available from local law enforcement.
