GRANT TWP. — Gather 40,000 people together to embrace the beauty of music, art and nature, and what do you think should happen? Well, of course an attempt at breaking the world record for the largest group hug should happen.

Electric Forest will attempt to break the record Friday, June 26, at 2:30 p.m.

The Electric Forest, which is a gigantic music festival set for June 25-28 at the Double JJ Resort near Rothbury, draws tens of thousands of free spirits from across the nation and other parts of the world every year.

“Foresters will assemble at the Sherwood Court Stage in the thousands, with the goal of besting the current record of 10,554 participants,” states electricforestfestival.com.

“Come prepared to show the world all the love that holds us together, and that inspires us to move forward. There is no community in the world that this record is more perfect for than the Forest Family. Stay tuned for more information on this very special event.”

The largest group hug consisted of 10,554 people in an event organized by Bear Hug III at the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2010, according to guinnessworldrecords.com.

The group hug is one of many interactive events that are part of Electric Forest’s Plug In Program, which is a platform that calls on fans’ participation through art and community projects, campsite décor contests, the (hula) Hoop Troupe and much more.
