Snowmobiler in critical condition following crash

OCSO cruiserGRANT TWP. — A 32-year-old Montague man is in critical condition after crashing his snowmobile in a blueberry field off of West Winston Road near South 72nd Avenue Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15.

Charles Alan VanTuyl was transported from the scene by Oceana EMS to the Hackley Campus Mercy – Health Muskegon, where he was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids for critical injuries, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

VanTuyl was travelling east at 2:43 p.m. in a 1998 Arctic Cat on the edge of a blueberry field and did not see a drainage ditch that was drifted over with snow, the OCSO accident report states. He struck the ditch head on, overturning the snowmobile and was thrown from it, the report states.
