Governor orders flags lowered in honor of fallen firefighters.

October 10, 2014

LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder today joined with President Barack Obama in calling for the lowering of U.S. flags on all state buildings and within the state Capitol complex in conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, Oct. 12.

“Firefighters voluntarily put their lives at risk every day to help keep our communities safe,” Snyder said. “Today, we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the lives of others.”

This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

Flags should be returned to their full staff positions on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
