US 31 freeway construction begins Monday. 

The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced major construction on US 31 freeway will begin Monday, July 11. The project will include full closure of southbound US 31 between Pere Marquette Highway and Oceana Drive from July 11 to July 22. Southbound traffic will be detoured south on Pere Marquette Highway to Oceana Drive to US 31. Project work will continue on southbound US 31 with single lane closures through the completion of the project. Southbound lane closures are expected to be in place Monday through Saturday.

Work will begin on northbound US 31 with single lane closures starting July 11. Northbound lane closures are expected to be in place Monday through Friday.

The $5.5 million project includes resurfacing, draining work, guardrail and pavement markings repairs on US 31 from south of the Mason-Oceana counties line to north of Meisenheimer Road.

Project completion is scheduled for mid-October.
