Freezing rain expected tonight.

OCEANA COUNTY — The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a winter weather advisory for several Michigan counties, including Oceana, that takes effect at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8.

In addition to Oceana, impacted counties include Mason, Lake, Osceola, Newaygo, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm,  Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson.

The advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9.

Freezing rain is expected with total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch.

“Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy roads,” states NWS. “Secondary roads, bridges and overpasses, parking lots and sidewalks are most susceptible.

“While air temperatures gradually climb to near and above freezing late this evening, ground and pavement  temperatures may lag that, resulting in icy conditions on untreated surfaces.

“Slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.”
