Obituary: Jane Thocher, 85, of Hart. 

Jane Loise Thocher, 85, of Hart, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021. She was born April 29, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Delbert and Edith (Cooley) Wiggins.

Jane was an educator in the Hart and Lansing areas from 1956-1977 and administration staff in Hart from 1977-1992. She was also very involved in various organizations, including a human resources position in the Bay City Area Plumber’s Union from 1979-2014, president and volunteer with Harbor Hospice from 1999-2019, Muskegon dispute resolution from 1990-2019, Bread of Life Food Pantry from 2013-2021, and a lifetime member of 4-H in Ohio and Michigan.

Besides all of Jane’s community involvement, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, and feeding birds. She also liked boating and traveling; some of her notable travels include Rome, England, Ireland, the Cayman Islands, and Hawaii.

Jane is survived by her children, David G. (Perri) Thocher, Timothy W. Thocher, Christopher T. (Ann VanTassel) Thocher, Quintin F. (Judy) Thocher, and Mary McKenzie-Thocher; son-in-law, Timothy Evans; grandchildren, Brittany (Brian) Boom, Thomas (Abby) Thocher, Adam (Jenna) Thocher, John (Tracie) Thocher, Anna Thocher, Zachary Thocher, Kyle (Katie Mason) Thocher, Courtney (Mike) Veltman, Benjamin (Angie) Thocher, Dominic McKenzie, Jacyntha Thocher, and Demetrious (Brittany Collins) Thocher; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (John) Marshak;  brother, Thomas Wiggins; and her dog and faithful companion, Wickett.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, David W. Thocher; daughter, Catherine Evans; husband, Gerald O’Meara; partner, Merle Grover; sister, Ellen (Doug) Frazer; and brother, David Wiggins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16, 2021, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 316 South Peach Avenue, Hart, with Rev. Daniel Schumaker officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 North 72nd Avenue, Hart, MI 49420, with the recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Harbor Hospice, Oceana County Medical Care Facility, or Bread of Life Food Pantry.
