Fire destroys house trailer.

ROTHBURY — A fire at 2464 W. Scenic View Drive in the Oceana Shores subdivision destroyed a house trailer early Tuesday morning, May 11.

The fire likely originated in the trailer’s wood stove, said Grant Township Fire Chief Dan Yost.

Firefighters from Grant Township, Shelby-Benona and Ferry Township battled the blaze and were on scene for three hours. An excavator was called to the scene to remove part of the building, so firefighters could gain access to the structure. Several objects in the yard created obstacles for firefighters to attack the blaze, said Yost.

“The most difficult part was getting access to it due to all of the stuff in the yard.”

The homeowner was home at the time the fire ignited and was attempting to put it out when firefighters arrived. He and his three dogs safely escaped. The trailer was not insured, said Yost, and the American Red Cross was called in to assist the man.

Life EMS was on scene as standby, and the Rothbury Police Department responded.
