Water Road construction project phase completed.

Concrete was removed this year, and the road will be repaved next year.

HART — The first phase of road work on Water Road has been completed, and the road is now open, according to the Oceana County Road Commission.

The project is being done in two phases, said Oceana County Road Commission Managing Director Mark Timmer. Concrete was removed this year, and the road will be repaved next year. This allows it to “sit” for a season through the freeze/thaw cycle, so the road commission can determine if there are any issues and correct them before re-paving the surface next year.

“We thank you for your patience during road construction season,” states a memo from the road commission distributed Thursday morning, May 6.

Reconstruction of deteriorated Water Road began in March.

A collaboration between the township and the road commission, the road that once was a state highway is getting to get a much-needed overhaul from Polk Road to Taylor Road.

With a total project cost of $541,245, the township is contributing over $325,000, said  Timmmer.
