ESD millage renewal passes.

The West Shore Educational Service District’s request for a 1 mill renewal for special education has passed. Voters in Mason, Lake, and Oceana counties all passed the millage, which will raise $3.4 million annually for eight years.

Unofficial results were:

Mason County, 2,629, yes; 612, no

Lake County, 625, yes; 220, no

Oceana County, 1,870, yes; 889, no.

Special education is mandated by the federal government. In Mason, Oceana, and Lake counties, the millage serves 1,400 students with half the funds used every year to directly reimburse the public school districts within the ESD.

“We are extremely grateful that our voters have decided to continue to support our students in special education,” said ESD Superintendent Jason Jeffrey. “This is a great day for students, schools and our communities. Thank you voters.”
