Pentwater earns ‘best high school’ ranking.

PENTWATER — Pentwater Public School recently earned a high national ranking for 2021 Best High Schools by US News and World Report.

By earning a national ranking in the top 40 percent, the high school achieved status as a US News Best High School. This recognition includes a ranking of nearly all public high schools nationwide — approximately 18,000. Pentwater High School is ranked 218th in Michigan and 6,430 nationally.

All K-12 grades at Pentwater are housed in one building with total enrollment at about 250 students, said Dr. Scott Karaptian, superintendent/principal.

Because of Pentwater’s tax base, it is an out-of-formula district that does not receive a state per-pupil funding. With the small enrollment, the teacher-to-student ratio is low, allowing students more one-on-one learning opportunities compared to larger schools. “A lot of people say Pentwater is a public school with a private school feel.”

“We see kids in preschool to 12th grade every day in the same building, so the relationships we can build with the kids and families is key in helping us be educationally successful,” Karaptian said. “Nobody slips between the cracks.

We have such an amazing teaching and support staff who are so dedicated to not only the academic growth of our students, but their social and emotional growth as well.  What also aids in our success is the support of our school board and community — so many care about our students, staff and school making this such a wonderful place to be.”
