Mixture of contested races, no candidates in Aug. 4 primary.

By Allison Scarbrough, Editor.

OCEANA COUNTY — Even though there are several township races on the Aug. 4 primary ballot, there are some positions with no one on the ballot at all.

In Crystal Township, there are three candidates on the ballot for two trustee positions: Tom Oomen, republican, Rosalie Sauser, democrat, and incumbent Gaye Sorensen, democrat. However, no one is on the ballot to run for supervisor or clerk in Crystal Township.

Shelby Township has two candidates for supervisor: Richard Raffaelli and Star Blohm, both of whom are republicans. There are five republicans seeking two trustee positions in Shelby Township: Dianne Blohm, Caleb J. Coulter, Scott Meyers, Kenneth Near and Cynthia Rapes.

Golden Township has races for both treasurer and trustee. Treasurer candidates are republicans Connie Cargill (incumbent) and LuAnn Mitteer. There are three candidates on the ballot for two trustee positions: republicans Gary Beggs (incumbent), Michael Cook and Bill Kolenda (incumbent).

In Weare Townhip, two candidates are running for supervisor: republicans Larry Doran and Dale Stevenson, incumbent.

In Grant Township, two republicans are running for clerk: Shannon Beishuizen and Amy Martell.

Two republicans are running for Greenwood Township supervisor: Jamie Holcomb and Jeffery Hunt. Three candidates are seeking two trustee positions in Greenwood Township: Stacey Kay Budde, Alan T. Deater and Steven Stroven. Four candidates are seeking election to two trustee seats: republicans Gary Hilbert, Andy Patterson and Mark Seeback and democrat Tom Sayles.

The deadline for candidates running with no party affiliation is July 16 at 4 p.m., said Oceana County Clerk Amy Anderson. Candidates with no party affiliation will not be on the primary ballot, but will appear on the November ballot. Anderson said several candidates intend to run for the township positions without a party affiliation, including the Leavitt Township Board. Currently, no candidates have filed to run in Leavitt Township.

The clerk said she is not aware of anyone intending to the run for Claybanks Township clerk or one of the trustee positions; Pentwater Township treasurer and supervisor; and Crystal Township supervisor and clerk.
