GOLDEN TOWNSHIP – A 21-year-old Howell man was arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies Sunday, July 21, at 12:20 a.m. after allegedly running over two tents with his vehicle at the Val Du Lakes Campground on North Wilson Road, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

No one was inside the tents, and no one was injured, Mast said.

The suspect was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, resisting/obstructing police, driving without insurance, damage to property and unlawful registration.

When deputies returned to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. to do some follow-up investigation, they observed the suspect’s friend – a 20-year-old Howell man – driving. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and false representation of age due to allegedly having a false ID.

“It was a series of poor decisions,” said Mast.
