WEARE TOWNSHIP – A Hart Public Schools bus transporting nearly 30 students was rear-ended by a Ford flat-bed farming truck on Oceana Drive near Jackson Road Wednesday, May 15, shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Police were not immediately notified if anyone on the bus was injured, but the truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Deputy Dean Wiegand. The truck driver, who is an 89-year-old Pentwater man, was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon.

The school bus was able to be driven away from the scene, while the Monton Farms truck was towed.

Emergency personnel had the northbound lane of Oceana Drive closed off in the vicinity of the crash to clean up the wreckage.

Witnesses told police the bus was stopped, with its flashers on, to drop students off, Wiegand said.

In addition to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and Life EMS, the Hart Area Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Pentwater Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and no other details are immediately available.
