HART – A 30-year-old Whitehall man has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer after allegedly threatening his 69-year-old mother with a baseball bat and then resisting arrest by a Michigan State Police trooper, according to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Charles Lee England, of 817 Livingston St., was lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $10,000/cash/surety/10 percent bond, according to his court file.

The incident occurred April 12 in Claybanks Township, Bizon said. “The defendant allegedly threatened his mother with a bat but allegedly did not hit her. The officer was resisted when he attempted to arrest the defendant and was not injured.”

The maximum penalty for assault with a dangerous weapon is four years in prison and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer is two years.
