Historical society seeks photographers.

HART – The Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society needs people to take pictures of landmarks in Oceana communities, such as old buildings, overviews of cemeteries, parks, tourist attractions, businesses, main streets, events, etc.

“You see, the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society has an extensive historical archive of over 15,000 old photographs detailing what things looked like in the 1880s and even the early 1900s,” states a press release from the organization.

“But what we don’t have is a good collection of how things look today – and before you know it, today will be yesterday and yesterday is part of history.

“If you can spare a bit of time, please photograph your community, even a small part of it, and email those crisp, clear pictures, with details such as the business name, address, location, owner, date the picture was taken, etc., as well as your name, to us.

“We’ll add acceptable pictures to our archives, documenting the details you provide, into our permanent record, which includes the name of the photographer, so you will be credited for your donation.

“We exist solely through the efforts of volunteers and community support. Your efforts will ensure that your community is included in this project.”

The historical society is open every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 114 Dryden Street in Hart, across from the sheriff’s office.
