OCEANA COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for several Michigan counties, including Oceana, that will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.

“An area of precipitation will be spreading in from the south late Wednesday morning,” states the NWS. “The onset will likely be snow. A transition to light freezing rain or freezing drizzle is forecasted during the afternoon. The precipitation is predicted to gradually diminish Wednesday evening.

“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

“A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.”

Expect mixed precipitation with ice accumulations of up to .10 of an inch, according to the NWS.

In addition to Oceana, counties included in the advisory are Newaygo, Mason, Muskegon, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton and Ingham.

The NWS issued the advisory shortly after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
