SHELBY TWP. — A 17-year-old Shelby man received up to five fractures to his leg when he was struck by a 1997 silver four-door Ford Taurus on West Hayes Road near 72nd Avenue Friday, July 24, at 10:22 p.m. The driver of the Taurus fled the scene, and the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the driver.

After the driver fled the scene, a passenger returned to the scene on foot, said OCSO Lt. Craig Mast. The Taurus was later recovered and has been impounded, Mast said, but the driver is still at large. Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called in to track the suspect, Mast said.

The skateboarder underwent reconstructive surgery at Hackley Campus Mercy Health Muskegon.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the crash is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 231-873-2121. No other information is being released at this time.
