Lighthouse keepers association director charged with financial crimes.

LUDINGTON — The Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA) announced recently that it has named Jeff dePuis of Montague as its interim executive director following the recent arrest of Executive Director Peter Manting.

Manting, 66, was arrested by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and arraigned in Mason County’s 79th District Court on Thursday, June 16 on charges of financial transaction device – steal/retain without consent; larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000; computers, using to commit a crime (two counts).

“While this investigation does not appear to involved SPLKA at this point, the association will cooperate fully,” a press release from SPLKA stated.

Mason County Undersheriff Derrek Wilson said he did not have much information on the case, which is being investigated by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.

The Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association, based in Ludington, operates Big Sable Point Lighthouse, Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse, Little Sable Point Lighthouse and White River Light Station.

Manting is scheduled for a probable cause conference in 79th District Court on Wednesday, June 29 at 1 p.m.
