HART — With football season set to start soon, the Hart High School band program has been preparing for its new season this week.

“They’re learning the basics of marching fundamentals,” said band director John Breitenbach.

Taking over for retired band director John Taranko, Breitenbach said he was excited to meet his new students and teach the importance of music. “Each day, we will be learning drills,” said Breitenbach, “ending the day learning the music.”

The band program will be performing at local football games this season, playing songs such as “Blinding Lights” by The Weekend. “One song I am looking forward to playing is ‘Megalovania,’” said senior drum major, Andrew Carter, referring to the hit song from the video game “Undertale”. Juniors Colton Dean and Jaden Whelpley said they are looking forward to getting back together with their friends.

Besides the education of music, Hart’s band camp also hosted a snack table, run by the parents of the Band Boosters. According to Sara Bizon, three year member of the Band Boosters, they are there to “provide support for the band,” in several different ways. “We help with uniforms before football games. Uniform repairs and measuring. Chaperone competitions, and help with fundraisers for new instruments,” remarked Bizon. By running sponsorships through the local businesses, they are able to fund events for the band’s season, like the annual Christmas concert. “We’re always welcoming new parents to be on the board,” stated Bizon, “to help support this band.”

As marching season is soon to begin during the football half-time events, the Hart High School band looks forward to the new year.
