MEARS — A house was destroyed in an early morning fire Monday, April 5, on Fox Road between 56th and 64th avenues, according to Hart Fire Chief Dwight Fuehring.

No one was injured. The family, which includes two adults and two children, escaped from the fire after hearing a grill’s propane tank explode on the deck. The fire originated on the back side of the house by the deck, said Fuehring, but the fire’s cause has not yet been determined.

The approximate 1,500-square-foot house was insured, and the occupants sought temporary housing at a relative’s house next door, said the chief.

There is water and smoke damage throughout the home, although many of the contents can be saved.

Firefighters from Pentwater, Shelby and Ferry assisted the Hart Area Fire Department. Hart was dispatched to the scene at 1:38 a.m., and firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m.
