GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an arson that occurred Sunday, Aug. 23, around 2 p.m. in the area of Winston Road and 160th Avenue that resulted in 5 acres of federal forest land burning, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The Hesperia Area Fire Department and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze, and sheriff’s deputies were called in to investigate.

“We did recover some evidence, and the investigation is continuing,” said Sheriff Mast.

“There was obvious debris from a pipe bomb,” he said. Deputies found “remnants of a threaded piece of pipe with a drilled hole for a fuse.”

No one was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 231-873-2121.
