Penwater PD to enforce mask mandate.

PENTWATER — The Pentwater Police Department made an announcement on its Facebook page Monday, July 13, that officers will enforce Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s mask mandate that took effect Monday.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order Friday, July 10, that requires individuals to wear a face covering whenever they are in an indoor public space. Those who do not comply with the order could face a misdemeanor charge and a $500 fine. Although, jail would not be imposed.

It also requires the use of face coverings in crowded outdoor spaces. The order requires any business that is open to the public to refuse entry or service to people who refuse to wear a face covering, with limited exceptions.

“Today the Governor’s latest executive order takes effect,” states a post on the PPD’s Facebook page. “The order mandates that people wear masks inside of businesses unless they are not able to medically tolerate them.

“To be clear, the Pentwater Police Department will be assisting local businesses in enforcing this order. People choosing not to wear a mask will be asked to leave the store. If you don’t leave the store or refuse to put on a mask, enforcement action will be taken. This is not the fault of the store owner; it is the result of the Governor’s Executive Directive.

“Pentwater Police Department will assume that those who are medically unable to wear masks should not be inside a public building due to the extreme risk of becoming infected or passing on the infection to others. Officers will not be asking, nor can we ask for proof of medical conditions, you will simply be asked to leave.

“Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in these tough times. Thank you for your support (and) please enjoy your time in Pentwater.”
