COVID-19 update: 43 cases, 2 deaths in Oceana County.

District Health Department #10 has confirmed there are 43 positive COVID-19 cases in Oceana County and two deaths as of Thursday afternoon, May 14.

The most recent death in Oceana County was a male Oceana resident in his 70s who died at Muskegon Mercy Hospital, according to DHD#10.

“We wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the family who lost their loved one,” said Kevin Hughes, DHD#10 Health Officer. “COVID-19 continues to pose a serious threat to our community members and we must all continue to follow all executive orders to help bring this deadly virus to a halt.”

In Newaygo County, there are 39 positive cases, and Mason County has 23 positive COVID-19 cases, according to DHD#10 data. No deaths have been reported in either county. Muskegon County has 417 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 20 deaths as of Wednesday, May 13, according to Muskegon County Public Health.

Of the 236 positive COVID-19 cases in DHD#10’s 10-county jurisdiction, 55 people have recovered. The health department will publish recoveries by county soon, according to DHD#10 Public Information Officer Jeannine Taylor.

There are 49,582 confirmed cases in Michigan and 4,787 confirmed deaths statewide.
