ROTHBURY — A family of seven is temporarily displaced after an electrical fire damaged their mobile home located in the 6800 block of 88th Avenue Tuesday night, March 31, said Grant Township Fire Chief Roland Brooks.

Firefighters responded to the scene quickly to save the home. “Our guys got out there fast and did a good job,” Brooks said.

Firefighters from Grant Township and Shelby-Benona departments battled the blaze.

Damage is contained to the exterior only, and there was no damage to the home’s interior or the family’s belongings, he said. The home owned by Crystal Ramirez is insured, and the insurance company is working to find a temporary home for the family.

“The insurance company is going to find them somewhere else to live until the place is re-wired,” Brooks said. “It burned a lot of wiring.” In the meantime, the family is staying with a nearby relative.

The trailer has vinyl siding over tin siding, which slowed the spread of the fire, the chief said. A fire investigation crew was called to the scene.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 8:30 p.m. and cleared at approximately 10 p.m., Brooks said. They were able to save the family’s two dogs and Guinea pigs from the fire. No one was injured.
