HART — An Oceana County sheriff’s deputy has been suspended from duty with pay since the beginning of December, and an investigation by the Michigan State Police is ongoing.

“I suspended a deputy pursuant to some allegations that were made,” said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“We’re anxiously waiting for the state police’s investigation to finish up,” Mast said. “We don’t want to make premature assumptions. I think we owe it to the people involved that we use due diligence to make sure we use every resource we have available to us to do this investigation properly and fully.”

Mast had no other comment about the investigation regarding who the deputy is and what allegations were made. He expects to provide more information when the investigation is complete.
