Driver falls asleep at wheel, crashes on US 31.

GRANT TOWNSHIP – A trip to the Little River Casino in Manistee turned unlucky when a 24-year-old Fruitport man fell asleep at the wheel on the return trip home and crashed the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving on southbound US 31 about a mile north of Park Road Sunday, Nov. 10, shortly after 2 a.m., according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

“The driver was southbound and fell alseep at the wheel; lost control; ran off the roadway into the median; and the vehicle rolled,” the report states.

The driver was transported to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon by Life EMS. His two passengers — an 18-year-old Norton Shores woman and a 23-year-old Norton Shores man – were not injured.

Neither the driver nor the female passenger were wearing seat belts, the report states.
