HART – Three crossbows were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on South Apple Street, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The crime was reported to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5:35 a.m. Stolen were a Centerpoint 380 Whisper, a Centerpoint Sniper and a Barnett crossbow with a total value of at least $700.

There has been a recent rash of thefts from vehicles in the City of Hart, according to Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar who warns residents to keep their vehicles locked and to not leave valuables inside their cars, including firearms. Police are also urging residents to keep their homes locked.

“Suspects are going car to car checking vehicles to see if they are unlocked. If the vehicle is locked, the suspect passes it by and moves to the next vehicle. If the doors are unlocked, personal property is being stolen,” states a post on the Hart Police Department’s Facebook page.

“The Hart Police Department encourages residents to be aware of their surroundings when parking in business parking lots, and report any suspicious people and vehicles to law enforcement.”

Residents can report suspicious activity by calling 911, Mason/Oceana Central Dispatch at (231) 869-5858 or the Hart Police Department at (231) 873-2488.
