Hart Lakefest makes a splash Aug. 17.

HART – The former Whatever Floats your Boat Regatta event organized by Hart Main Street is now Hart Lakefest.

The updated event will still include the popular cardboard boat race, but will offer more fishing, paddling and floating activities for all ages to enjoy.

New 2019 activities include a Youth Fishing Derby for ages 4-16, a Kayak Scavenger Hunt, and Paddle Sports Factory Outlet Demo Days and Water Safety Presentation.

Activities will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Music on the Commons closing out the evening with live music at 7 p.m. All actives are free.

Youth Fishing Derby, 9 a.m. to noon: No registration needed, just show up with your fishing equipment at John Gurney Park and have fun. There will be prizes for each age group in four different categories: Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish, Most Fish and Best Selfie with Fish. Age groups: 4-6 years old, 7-11, and 12-16. Prizes include fishing equipment donated by Walmart.

Kayak Scavenger Hunt, 1-4 p.m.: Complete the scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes. Bring your kayak, paddle and life jacket if you have them, or limited equipment will be available to use from Pentwater River Outfitters.

Demo Days and Water Safety Presentation: kayak equipment available and paddle tips by Pentwater River Outfitters and Paddle Sports Factory Outlet.

Cardboard Boat Regatta: Starts at noon at the Veteran’s Park. Participants will paddle in their pre-made cardboard boats across the lake to John Gurney Park. Trophy and prizes!

Music, hot dogs and snacks: noon to 1 p.m.

Kids’ Drum Circle: 6 p.m.
