Autopsy performed on assault victim.

HART – An autopsy has been performed on Robert Brown, 37, of Nashville, Michigan, who died following an assault, July 28, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

Law enforcement is awaiting the pathologist’s results, Mast said.

The assault occurred during an after-hours wedding party on Elm Street in Ferry Township.

A 34-year-old Hart man has been identified as a suspect, Mast said. He was arrested, July 28, for operating while intoxicated, but he has not been charged with the deadly assault as police continue to investigate.

Deputies and paramedics were dispatched to the home after a fight between party goers. There had been a wedding reception in Shelby that Saturday evening, and some guests and the wedding party went to the home for an after-hours party.

“Sources say that throughout the evening, there had been an ongoing disagreement between two gentlemen at the party,” Mast said. “At approximately 4:33 a.m., this disagreement turned physical between the two, and (Brown) fell to the ground. In doing so, he sustained extremely critical injuries to his head.”

Brown was immediately transported to Mercy Health Partners Lakeshore Campus in Shelby and then transferred to MHP Hackley Campus in Muskegon and later died.
