HART – In conjunction with National Police Week, Oceana police officers and community members gathered for a memorial service Friday, May 17, on the courthouse lawn, honoring officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast provided the introductions, and the Rev. Dan Barnum-Steggerda of the Hart and Shelby United Church of Christ recited the opening and closing prayers.

Color Guard was performed by Andrew Carter and Reed Schulz of Boy Scout Troop 1155.

Guest Speaker was State Rep. Scott VanSingel (R-Grant) of the 100th District, who offered his gratitude to the officers for their bravery. The Policeman’s Prayer was read by the Hon. Bradley Lambrix of the Oceana County Probate Court.

Sgt. Kevin Skipski the Hart Police Department performed the “Laying of the Wreath” in honor of slain officers.

Color Guard was performed by Andrew Carter and Reed Schulz of Boy Scout Troop 1155.

Cherie Hockenbuerger played “Taps” on bag pipes.

A light picnic lunch on the sheriff’s office lawn followed the ceremony.
