US 31 to close between US 10, PM Highway for utility work.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — US 31 expressway between US 10 and Pere Marquette Highway will be closed three days over the next couple of weeks to allow for utility work. Michigan Electric Transmission is pulling new high voltage wires across the expressway, according to John Richard of Michigan Department of Transportation. “Rather than stopping traffic 20 times for 20 to 25 minutes, the detour will keep traffic moving,” he said.

Closures will be as follows:

• Tuesday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., north power line crossing.
• Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., south power line crossing.

The detour will be as follows:

• Northbound US 31: Take Pere Marquette Highway Exit (166) north to US 10. Take US 10 east to US 10-31.
• Southbound US 31: Take US 10 west to Pere Marquette Highway; go south on Pere Marquette Highway to US 31.
