HART – The Shopko Hometown store, located at 2278 N. Comfort Dr., will permanently close its doors May 12. It is among 139 stores that the company announced Wednesday, Feb. 6, are closing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

“Through our conversations with the potential buyers, it has become clear that it is in our best interest to operate with a significantly smaller store footprint,” stated Manager of Public Relations Michelle Hansen.

“Yesterday, we announced the closure of an additional 139 Shopko and Shopko Hometown stores.

“We remain hopeful that we will be able to emerge as a stronger company, and we believe that this is the best course of action to make ourselves more attractive to potential buyers and successfully emerge from Chapter 11.”

Approximately 10-12 full- and part-time employees will lose their jobs at the Hart store, Hansen said. They were notified of the closure Wednesday.

The store’s pharmacy closed at the end of November.

Hansen did not immediately know what will happen with the building after the store closes.
