HART – A 19-year-old Zeeland man currently incarcerated in prison received a concurrent prison term Monday, Dec. 3, in 27th Circuit Court for a conviction of second-degree home invasion.

Nieko James Sheldon was arrested last April in Oceana County and was set to receive a Holmes Youthful Trainee Act (HYTA) sentence. He was convicted in Ottawa County last October of felonies of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and unlawful driving away of an automobile/car theft, so his HYTA status was revoked. His convictions led to prison terms of one to two years and one year and 11 months to five years, according to the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS).

When he failed to show up for court in Oceana County, he lost his chance of receiving HYTA.

Sheldon re-entered his plea Monday and received a prison term of 19 months to 15 years with credit or 206 days served in jail. He was also ordered to pay $3,700 in restitution.

Sentencing guidelines in the case for the minimum are 19-38 months.

Sheldon is incarcerated in the Parnall Corrections Facility in Jackson.
