Successful season for boat safety training.

PENTWATER – Pentwater Sportfishing Association, along with the Pentwater Yacht Club, and Oceana Country Marine Deputy Officer Tim Simon, held the Don VanZile Boater Safety Training class in July and August.

A total of 33 individuals attended the two-day course, and all passed to receive the boater safety certificate.

This annual event started in 1998, and is named in honor of long-time supporter of the training event, Don VanZile. Officer Simon has instructed this class for years, and notes, “Michigan Law requires individuals born after June 30, 1996 to have this certificate to operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 6 horsepower and to operate a jet ski. The individual, if born after December 31, 1978, must meet certain other conditions including having the boating safety certificate and to carry it on-board.”

All information on this event, along with future fishing events in Pentwater, are posted on the Pentwater Sportfishing Assocation web page: www.pentwaterpsa.org.
