PENTWATER — The Women Who Care of Oceana County will meet Sept. 4 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Pentwater Yacht Club, 205 S. Dover Street.

Since the group’s first meeting in June of 2012, the total giving by members, who’ve each written $100 personal checks to 22 area nonprofits serving Oceana County, now stands at $295,000.

“Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings,” said Amy LaBarge, one of the founding members. “They can’t vote, but they can watch what we do. We typically get a few guests at each meeting who decide to join,”

On the first Tuesday of March, June, September and December, the women meet for one hour. They learn about three worthy causes serving Oceana residents from fellow members who nominate them. Then, the attendees vote their favorite, and each member writes a $100 personal check to the nonprofit getting the most votes. Socializing after the meeting follows for those who have time to stay. Those who are unable to attend the meeting agree to write a $100 check payable to the nonprofit selected by the group.
