HART — A 38-year-old Hesperia man was sentenced to five to 25 years in prison in 27th Circuit Court Monday, June 11, for a conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) – victim under 13.

William Claude Roach II, of 1751 S. 200th Ave., was initially charged with seven felony counts CSC, three of which were third-degree CSC and four were first-degree CSC charges. There other charges were dismissed when he pleaded “no contest.”

“He has vigorously contested the charges,” said Roach’s attorney Julie Springstead Waltz.

Roach was arrested last November by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and was lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $15,000/cash/surety bond.

“I spent a lot of time with the adult representatives of the child victim,” said Oceana County Prosector Joseph Bizon, working out a solution in the matter with the child’s best interest in mind.

The plea agreement called for a five-year minimum plea agreement, Bizon said, and it was up to the court to set the maximum term. Judge Bradley G. Lambrix set the maximum at 25 years.

“This is a very serious matter,” Lambrix said, noting that the maximum possible term is life in prison.

Roach will be subject to lifetime mandatory electronic monitoring and must register as sex offender.
